An Elaborate Intro To A PhD Dissertation

For most of the people who want to pursue a career in the academic writing field, their PhD dissertation is the largest and most important paper they have ever written. Although it may be just the first in a series of papers that will be written further on, the truth is that both the nervousness of having to write such a big work and the pressure can be nerve-wrecking sometimes.

One of the most important parts in your PhD dissertation will be your introduction. Basically, this is the part that everybody will get to read first and you have to attract the attention on your paper with it. You have to make this introduction both elaborate and you will also have to make sure you do not stretch it too much, since this may not be the very best thing to do either. Finding the right balance when it comes to the length of the paper is only one of the things you will have to take into consideration, and if you want to learn more about this, then you should definitely read on.

  1. Present your topic and introduce the reader in it. Make sure that you explain the context of the paper and the context in which the topic in the paper will be developed.
  2. Explain what approaches you will use and make sure that you do it thoroughly. Also, do explain the research methods you will use and the reasons for which you will do this.
  3. It is of the highest importance that you explain exactly what the entire paper will be about and that you make the reader understand the importance of this research for the further development of the field in which you have done it. Although you may not have to re-invent the wheel, you can definitely choose a whole new perspective on things that have already been researched – and, after all, this is part of the beauty of the academic world.
  4. Remember that an introduction that is much too long stands a very good chance of being boring. At the same time, an introduction that is much too short can be too brief and confusing for a reader who is not 100% familiar with what you are talking about.
  5. Emphasize on the first sentence and on the last sentence of the introduction part as much as possible, since these will be the keys in opening up the reader’s interest to read more.
